republicanismRepublicanism and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth remain theoretical inspiration and a binder linking other initiatives of the Aurea Libertas Institute. One of the fundamental goals of our foundation is the reflection on Polish history, culture and political traditions, maintaining the republican spirit and reminding about the culture of the old Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.

The Republicanism and the Old Republic project remains a kind of theoretical inspiration and a binder linking other initiatives of the Aurea Libertas Institute. One of the fundamental goals of our foundation is the reflection on Polish history, culture and political traditions of the 16th and 18th centuries.

This theoretical project manifests itself in the activities undertaken by the Institute. They serve to maintain the republican spirit, that is, to activate the citizens of the Poland Republic with the use of innovative solutions, as well as strengthening tradition and reminding about the culture of the old Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Poles aware of the role of native republican traditions can play a significant role in the public debate;

Among topics related to republicanism and cultural heritage of the Republic, we are particularly interested in:

  • the uniqueness on the European scale of the republican cultural, political and civic heritage left by the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth,
  • the phenomenon of Sarmatian republicanism and the approach to personal freedom, which is an important part of European political and cultural experience,
  • the figures of eminent Polish patriots operating in past eras,
  • the ideal of the Commonwealth as a coherent project of free, conscious and responsible civic participation,
  • the role of the Republic of Poland as a forerunner of contemporary federal projects and a modern model of political patriotism.
